No matter where you live in the world, natural disasters are a possibility. In some locations, earthquake fault lines make this type of disaster more likely. Water and Food Supplies

All earthquake preparedness kits should rank food and water high on the priority list. Keep enough water to supply each person with at least one gallon per day. Make sure water is stored in containers that will not degrade over time, such as plastic jugs. Changing water out at least every six months is also important to prevent bacteria build up.

 Every earthquake movie made shows characters turning to canned goods as a food source. There is truth to this. All disaster kits should include food items that will not quickly rot or go bad, such as canned soups, vegetables and fruits. Even meats can be purchased in a can. Infant supplies should be included as well as special needs items for those with dietary problems.

Earthquake safety is a big issue. When disasters occur, the landscape may be altered which leaves plenty of room for injuries. Keep all the basic first aid supplies in your earthquake preparedness kit. This should include gauze, cleansers and soap, safety pins, non-prescription medications, scissors and band aids.

General Tools

A few basic tools should be included in your earthquake kit. Items such as flashlights, paper and pencils, pliers, needs and thread can come in very useful. A battery operated radio could also make a huge difference as well as aluminum foil, fire extinguisher, hammer, utility knives, and matches.
